Q.  Which Solvents Can I Take on a Commercial Aircraft?

A.

Tough question, easy answer.

Many technicians need to travel to visit remote equipment and customers in distant locations. They often The TravelSAFE logo means the product upon which it appears can be carried on commercial airplanes and/or shipped as a "nonhazardous/nonregulated" product. need to take their tool kits. But since 9/11, none of those tool kits have held any solvents. It's true: the airlines and the security services have become pretty serious about keeping anything off airplanes that could cause a problem. So industrial products, like aerosol solvents, simply are not going on commercial flights. Don't even try. In the old days, they would take the cans away from you. Nowadays, they throw you in jail. A typical TravelSAFE container, in this instance containing a solvent for optical devices.

And they're not the only people having trouble getting solvents where they need them. How about the techs who need to fix the electronics on the top of radio towers? Are they going to carry a pail of solvent up that ladder? Or have a big aerosol can fall out of their pocket half-way up? They need something small and easy to carry. The answer is "TravelSAFE™."

TravelSAFE™ Solvents Can Be Taken Anywhere

MicroCare has six TravelSAFE™ cleaners: a degreaser, a defluxer and a contact cleaner, plus three cleaners for optical and photonics applications. All are nonflammable and non-corrosive. Plus, they're packaged in pump-spray bottles -- not pressurized aerosols. This means TravelSAFE™ solvents can be thrown in your tool kit without worries.

In fact, TravelSAFE packaging means these products are perfectly acceptable to carry and ship on commercial aircraft. You can ship them UPS, TNT or FedEx and not pay any hazmat charges, because they aren't hazardous materials. These savings can be huge: hazmat shipments cost 200-400% more than normal, non-hazardous freight costs.

Each TravelSAFE™ solvent is a nonflammable, nonhazardous, neutral pH cleaner. They are packaged in a 3 oz./85 gram pump spray. The pump spray is unpressurized and leak-proof and contains approximately 400 sprays. This makes the TravelSAFE™ package ideal for tool boxes, instrument cases and installation kits.

It is the combination of the unique solvent and the unique packaging that makes these products TravelSAFE™. The TravelSAFE™ package complies with all applicable safety regulations. Specifically, the TravelSAFE™ products are nonhazardous as defined by: IATA “Dangerous Goods Regulations” (44th Edition) for air transport; by the Code of Federal Regulations; Title 49, Subchapter C, Parts 171 thru 180 for ground transport; and by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), “International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code” Amendment 31, for ocean shipments.

Note: TravelSAFE™ cleaners are not Trigger Grip™ compatible. Look for the TravelSAFE™ logo on solvents and products throughout this website. For details about these cleaners, contact MicroCare or your local distributor.
