Q.  What Is TravelSAFE Packaging and Why Is It Important?

A.

In 2005, MicroCare introduced a new packaging option for some of our cleaning products. This innovation is called "TravelSAFE™" packaging. It is a radical new way to provide faster, better, safer and cheaper cleaning to two types of customers: either people who travel for their technical jobs, or companies that need to ship their precision cleaners around the world.

There are six TravelSAFE products today. To be classified as TravelSAFE, it takes are a unique combination of unique chemistries and packaging:

>> First, the solvent has to be nonflammable. Neither the liquids nor any evaporating fumes can burn, or else it's not TravelSAFE. That's why alcohol cleaners can never be made "travelsafe."

>> Next, the package has to be nonpressurized. Airlines and overnight freight companies don't like compressed gasses because of the risk they pose to the airplane. So pump-sprays are a must. But most pump sprays leak, so keeping a fast-drying solvent like these products in a pump spray is a real challenge. But MicroCare figured out a way. Our unique, leakproof pump sprays are unpressurized and contains no propellant. They also contains less than 3 ounces, so they can be carried through airport security!

>> Lastly, the cleaners must be noncorrosive (have a neutral pH), so any leaking solvent would not damage ships, airframes, containers or materials of construction.

The Benefits of Being TravelSAFE

TravelSAFE products save customers' money. Typical applications will be in capital equipment, telecoms, airlines, oil fields and security. Important benefits are:

Handy Size: TravelSAFE products use a small, unique dispenser that fits in a tool kit. This makes them convenient to take to the job site or ship by air.

Easy to Ship: TravelSAFE products are safe and legal for transport on commercial aircraft. They can be shipped as non-regulated/nonhazardous products, cutting air freight costs by 70% or more.

Precise Cleaning: TravelSAFE products use a “metered” valve which delivers exactly 140 micro-liters per spray, more than 400 sprays per bottle.

No Contamination: TravelSAFE mini-pumpshave no propellants and use a gasketless seal to avoid the oils found in some aerosols.

TravelSAFE Regulatory Details

Specifically, the TravelSAFE products are not regulated and nonhazardous as defined by IATA “Dangerous Goods Regulations” (44th Edition) for air transport; by the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations; Title 49, Subchapter C, Parts 171-180 for ground transport; and by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) “International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code” Amendment 31, for ocean shipments.
