Q.
Which Solvent Dries the Fastest?
|
A.
|
Technicians like fast-drying solvents because they help them do their jobs faster. The most popular solvents of all time, the Freon® solvents from DuPont, were very fast drying. However, because solvents dry fast sometimes this means the techs use more of the solvent (due to the reduced "tack time"). So while the techs may love fast-drying solvents, there may be times when they are not the most cost-effective.
The speed king of evaporation belongs to MicroCare's Fiber Connector Cleaner (#MCC-FCC03M). Engineered for cleaning inside fiber optic alignment sleeves, it dries extremely quickly to minimize solvent entrapment. Also quick-drying is the Precision Optical Cleaner, (#MCC-POC03M). The Fiber Prep Fluid (#MCC-FPF03M) dries briskly but not as fast as the other two.
For defluxing and general electronics cleaning, the fastest-drying solvent is PowerClean™ (#MCC-PW2). This powerful cleaner is engineered for lead-free soldering, so it offers lots of cleaning horsepower and fast, aroma-free drying.
At MicroCare, we also recommend you improve your cleaning speed and reduce your costs by improving your cleaning process. This means you should work at creating an environment where people clean more with less solvent. To that end, MicroCare recommends using the Trigger Grip™ dispenser. That way, no matter which solvent you select, you will always use less solvent, get less on your hands, less in your lungs, less in your eyes. In this case, less is more -- much, much more.
