John Hoffman - The Man Who Cleaned Potato Chips

When John Hoffman joined MicroCare in 2002, he brought with him 37 years of proven industrial cleaning expertise combined with extraordinary sales and marketing experience.

“The work I do is extremely rewarding and helps to make the world a better place to live.”

A Lifelong Career

Before joining MicroCare, John was with DuPont (now Chemours) where he worked for 30 years in laboratory, sales and marketing. During his time there he received numerous sales and marketing excellence awards for his work with DuPont Freon® products and alternatives, including the development of Axarel® solvent cleaners. Throughout John’s 50+ year career, he’s been involved in some of the most interesting projects in the cleaning and degreasing industry. In the world of industrial cleaning, you name it and John Hoffman has probably helped clean it.

The Variety is Endless

John has been involved with the aerospace industry working with the cleanliness of things like the lunar rocks, cosmic particles and the space shuttle and its propulsion systems. He partnered with an oil company to remove down hole drilling muds from cuttings so they could be disposed of in an environmentally acceptable manner on off shore rigs in the Gulf of Mexico and the North Sea. Working with the US military, he helped gather evidence by US spy planes to detect radiation particles that indicated nuclear testing by other countries. John even collaborated with a large snack food company to use vapor degreasing to remove fat from potato chips. He also helped install the world’s largest Freon® vapor degreasing system (it took 383,000 lbs. to fill) that was used to manufacturer grenades for the MLRS rocket system. In his long career John has pretty much seen it all.

“The variety of things we’ve cleaned is amazing,” John said. “The things we can do are unbelievable. The only limit is the imagination.”

A Respected Colleague

Today, John consults with MicroCare industrial customers to help them resolve their critical cleaning and lubricating needs in a safe, economical and environmentally acceptable way. He is deeply respected by his customers and MicroCare colleagues. He is the MicroCare “elder statesman”. John is generous with his time and is always willing to share his knowledge and expertise. It’s no surprise that John was the 2017 MicroCare “Teamwork Award” winner. You can always turn to John for thoughtful, detailed answers, good advice and sound counsel.

An Environmentally Safe Way

Critical cleaning the environmentally safer way is very important to John. He’s proud that he can help provide effective, yet safe, cleaning fluids. It’s his personal goal to leave the world a bit better than he found it. To some, the work might seem dull or mundane, but not for John. “The work I do is extremely rewarding and helps to make the world a better place to live. I’ve had a very rewarding career,” John reflected.

John attended Rutgers, Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science (now Jefferson University). He earned a BS in Chemistry with a minor in Mathematics.
