Minnesota Bans TCE as an Industrial Solvent

May 17, 2019

In April 2019, the Minnesota House of Representatives agreed to legislation that would prohibit the use of Trichloroethylene (TCE) as an industrial solvent for manufacturing purposes within the State.

TCE is frequently used to degrease metal parts and to produce other chemicals. It is also found in other commonly used items including spot removers, glues and paint strippers.

TCE has been on the EPA watch list for a number of years. Research has shown that long-term or high exposure to TCE can cause serious health issues including damage to the kidneys, liver and the central nervous system. It can also increase the risk of cancer.

MicroCare offers a variety of safer cleaning fluid alternatives to TCE. Companies looking to switch to a better cleaning fluid can consult with a MicroCare critical cleaning specialist. They have the expertise to help companies choose the best options for their particular degreasing challenges and processes.
