What is the recommendation for PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) during instrument decontamination procedures and specifically for ProEZ 1 enzymatic detergent?

Protection is needed for both chemical and biological hazards when cleaning contaminated instruments. Use procedures to reduce aerosols by manually scrubbing items under water line and keeping lids on ultrasonic cleaning devices. Avoid high pressure sprayers for rinsing.

Enzymes in ProEZ 1 work by breaking down proteins and other organic soils, therefore they are potential irritants to eyes and skin. Breathing and lungs may also be affected if detergents are excessively aerosolized. It is recommended to use protective eyewear, a fluid resistant mask and fluid resistant apron or gown. Latex is protein so non-latex gloves are recommended during manual cleaning procedures.
