What is the purpose of the foam and how long will it last?

Do chemical monitors such as ProChek S take the place of biological spore tests?

No. Your sterilization monitoring program must include biological spore tests, preferably at least once a week in each operational sterilizer in use.The ProChek S does not replace biological spore tests.

Use of sterilization packaging is the proper way to maintain sterility of an item after it has been successfully processed in a sterilizer.

How long does sterility last inside a sterilization pouches?

Sterility lass indefinitely inside a sterilization pouch, because sterility is event-related, not time-related. In other words, something has to happen to the packaged item to cause it to become unsterile.

What causes items to become unsterile?

Anything which compromises the sterilzation pouch or package, such as: holes, wetness, broken seals, dropping on floor, dirt or abrasion, etc.

Is it appropriate to reuse self sealing paper/plastic pouches?

No, steam and heat alter the sterliztion pouch or packaging surface, making pin holes more likely during reuse.
