Brian King - Expanding on Success
When Brian King joined MicroCare back in 1998 it was a small company operating out of a 10,000 square foot facility in Bristol, CT. However, the company was growing fast. They needed someone to manage their manufacturing operations and maintain their filling line equipment. Owner, Chris Jones, being impressed with Brian’s strong mechanical aptitude, brought Brian on as the first MicroCare Production Supervisor.
“We certainly have come a long way in our manufacturing”.
“At that time, the aerosol filling line we were using was showing its age and wear” Brian recalled. “It needed constant maintenance and daily repairs. We’ve certainly come a long way in our manufacturing since then.”
From that single crude filling line, Brian worked to expand the MicroCare infrastructure to include four state-of-the-art production facilities and four logistics centers across the globe.
Building for Success
In 2001, MicroCare moved to its current location in New Britain, CT. In 2007 the Critical Cleaning Lab was established. “Our lab is an important partner for manufacturing,” Brian explained. “The chemists test all our formulations that we manufacture to ensure the pedigree of our products is perfect every time. They make sure it all meets our very strict industry standards of quality and safety.”
By 2010, it was clear MicroCare was out of room and needed to expand their US facilities. A new distribution center opened that year and then was replaced again by a larger facility in 2016. That was followed by another year of exponential growth and the acquiring and refurbishing of an additional building for more office, lab and production space in 2017.
In 2020, MicroCare acquired Certol, now MicroCare Medical, in Denver CO. Brian currently serves as Sr. Vice President for that location.
Global Expansion
In addition to the US locations, MicroCare is growing internationally too. Sales offices opened in Brussels in 2008. In 2013, MicroCare Asia was established with offices and distribution in Singapore. In 2017, sales operations started in the UK, followed by a manufacturing plant, distribution center and critical cleaning lab in 2018. In 2022 the Brussels facility merged with a newer, larger UK distribution center.
Brian is particularly proud of the expansion to the Singapore facility. “It was a big project with many logistical challenges,” he said. “It was exciting to get to build it from scratch. The team set up a whole infrastructure there including a distribution center and then figured out how to link it all back to our operations in the US. It was a big success.”
IT and Database Management
Along with building the brick and mortar locations for MicroCare, Brian was also responsible for the development and maintenance of the company’s digital infrastructure. “Our IT requirements have grown massively through the years,” Brian noted. “We started with a handful of desktop computers running AS400 and a dial-up internet connection. Now our team manages over 100 users across three continents. Sophisticated systems keep our business information flowing both securely and efficiently.”
On a Personal Note
Brian graduated from the University of Connecticut with a BS in General Studies and Web Development. He lives in Colorado, just a short drive away from the Denver office. When not working he likes skiing, fishing and golf.
